Common Respiratory Illnesses: What to Watch Out For and How to Avoid Them

One of the first things we usually do upon waking up is to do some stretching and sniffing the morning air. Just imagine how pleasant it can be to be waking up to fresh air every morning. In some cases, air pollution may also be present in suburban areas due to bushfires and other human-made fires.

To avoid the health consequences of inhaling smoke and other air impurities, you need to have respiratory protective equipment. These can prevent the occurrence of respiratory-related diseases that can compromise your health. Still, respiratory conditions are a common problem in many parts of the world.

Asthma

It occurs when there is an inflammation in the airways. Among common symptoms of asthma include difficulty breathing, dry cough, and wheezing. Aside from poor air quality, pollen and other allergens can trigger asthma.

How to prevent the effects of respiratory conditions

You can take specific steps to avoid the effects of the most common respiratory illnesses, as mentioned above. Here are the ways you can do so.

Having regular physical activities can help strengthen your lungs and keep them healthy. As early as in childhood years, it is important to keep yourself healthy by staying active regularly.

Use appropriate face masks if there are smoke and other air impurities present.

Surgical or dust masks can be used to lessen the inhalation of smoke and dust. However, make sure to know the right way of using it to maximize its capability. Better yet, use N95 and other appropriate masks when you encounter heavy smoke and the like.

Stop smoking.

Take care of your lungs by stop smoking. You may not experience the effects of cigarettes and the likes for now but wait for years before you realize its devastating consequences.
