Angel's HALO Network will offer broadband service to subscribers residing within a circular footprint of 50 to 75 miles diameter, delivered by a wireless communications network hub aboard a High Altitude Long Operation (HALO) piloted, fixed-wing aircraft, being developed by Scaled Composites. The aircraft, called HALO-Proteus, will carry a large antenna high above the center of a city to deliver very high-speed communications services, and will be operated in shifts above each market to offer service 24 - 7. In November, 1998, after a successful flight test in August, Raytheon and Angel announced a teaming agreement for the joint pursuit of stratospheric broadband wireless business opportunities. Raytheon will have responsibility as the prime electronics systems integrator for both the airborne and ground segments of the HALO network.
