  • This project layouts a framework for understanding QOS mapping at various level of the information transport protocol stack. The task of guaranteeing end-to-end QOS requires the understanding of the various level of QOS of the transport protocol stack. For example, switches are concerned only with per-hop, per-class cell-level QOS while applications with multimedia streams are concerned with end-to-end, per connection frame-level QOS. It is the end-to-end QOS, rather than the per-hop QOS, that is perceived and important to the users. However, network operators use the later to guarantee QOS to their users. Each of these entities deal with different statistical quantities that have to be mapped into each other.
