The MSF is focused on accelerating the transition from proprietary, circuit-switched Old World networks to the New World with open, packet/cell based architectures which support voice, data, and video services.
The Forum site's documentation includes provisional implementation agreements on the Multiservice Switching Forum Architecture and Virtual Switch Interface (VSI) Specification. Significant progress has already been made on the development of architecture, interface and protocol specifications for switches handling Voice over IP(VoIP) and Voice over ATM(VoATM). The group expects to complete the multiservice network architecture specification by year end.
