Masters of Telecommunication Day 3 PDF Print E-mail
DAY THREE:  NETWORK ACCESS AND MOBILITY IN 21ST CENTURY

The telecommunications industry has experienced nothing short of explosive growth over the last decade, with broadband network access playing a large role, giving life to the broadband era.  The value of broadband connectivity has risen greatly in value due to the new applications and services the additional bandwidth can support.  The access network has never been more important than it is today.  Advances in optical networking and high-speed wireless data, the introduction of converged services and smart devices, and the fact that regulators across the world support and promote broadband connectivity, have turned the fantasy of anytime and anywhere communications across a wide range of access alternatives into reality.

Today, it is the customer that has the power, and many transformation strategies are about empowering individual users.  However, it is vital to understand that the consumer base is changing dramatically.  Of the five generations of users in place, most important in the mix are the Millennials, whose characteristics make them a disruptive community.  Having grown up with technology at their side, the Millennials easily mix and match devices, applications and networks, seeking to get exactly what they want in both services and price.  Today’s users seek to have their personalized content delivered to them anywhere, anytime – in an intuitive fashion and at lowest cost.  Meanwhile, the line between wired and wireless access is disappearing from users’ line-of-sight, and the broadband generation is moving towards full mobility.   The mobile broadband revolution is now upon us, with the visions and the technologies in sight.

Day three is devoted to broadband access technologies, wireless communications and mobility.  By attending Day Three, you will develop an understanding of the importance of the customer experience, by getting a complete perspective on the new media environment, explore current and emerging trends in access, examining the new era of subscriber experience – from wired broadband access solutions and the growing importance of fiber alternatives to the ultimate in connectivity – access on a mobile basis, utilizing a growing range of wireless technologies and architectures.   Some more quizzes and case studies will help seal in your new found knowledge.
